WorkKeys, Louisiana and Leadership...really??

Jessica Fender had an interesting piece in The Advocate, Baton Rouge’s paper. The story tells of an exam that could benefit dropouts.  A “tailor-made test” to predict how dropouts would perform in the Community College program.  I don’t know where to start on this one.  I guess this is going to be a combo of ACT assessments and WorkKeys assessments...or is ACT up to something new.

It just amazes me that we need something different to predict a person’s fate in our community colleges.  If our community colleges are about preparing people for work, wouldn’t the WorkKeys assessment make a nice tool without reinventing the wheel.  Ah, but the community college folks view themselves differently I guess...starting to suffer from the same afflictions that ail the four year colleges.  Hello...it’s all about skills...and in this world, if you don’t have ‘em, you don’t work.  A degree is nice and all, but what can you do?

The WorkKeys employment system measures skills that employers say are needed for jobs.  It’s just that simple.  Use the WorkKeys system to profile the community college programs, and then use WorkKeys to predict success...or insure it.
